LEGO has launched it’s first prototype circular product, LEGO bricks made form recycled plastic bottles. LEGO bricks are currently made from virgin plastic derived from crude oil. LEGO has committed to a full transition to a circular economy model by 2030.
Other large corporates are beginning to follow suit. Nike has an initiative called Nike Purpose launching a range of circular products made from factory and post-consumer waste.
Burger King (Hungry Jacks in Australia) is now producing reusable packaging and IKEA now has a buyback program for used furniture.
These companies have a long way to go before becoming fully circular but a global shift towards a circular economy model is underway.
