In the office space, Vitra is well known for offering products from the famous designers Charles and Ray Eames.
Eames overarching strategy is “Getting the most of the best to the greatest number of people for the least”.
The The Vitra Eames plastic side chair achieves this goal. Using polypropylene, an advancement on the historical “glass-fibre reinforced polyester resin” the chair has a simple elegant one mould shape sustainably built with the ability to be manufactured in bulk with interchangeable bases.
This was a serious advancement in the 1940’s when the prototype for these chairs was first designed, launching the “first mass-produced plastic chairs in the history of furniture”, the A and S-shell plastic side chairs.
