Are you sitting correctly in front of your office workstation. We are all aware by now that incorrect posture can lead to a multitude of health problems but what can we do about it without a major overhaul of our work space. If adjusting your workstation is not currently possible or your recently purchased whiz bang ergonomic chair is taking ages to arrive, below are three easy intermediate adjustments that you can make without any changes to you equipment.
- Face your computer screen head on with your keyboard in line with your shoulders (this is the most obvious but you’d be surprised how many times you catch your self sitting at an angle during your working day).
- Sit up right with your shoulders against your chairs back rest for support (if you have to think about keeping yourself upright, you will loose concentration during your 8 hour work day reverting back to your habitual posture. Try placing a small cushion between your lower back and the chair back rest. This should help to keep your posture in line without too much effort).
- Keep your feet squarely planted on the ground. (Don’t stretch out your legs. If stretching out is habitual, place either a box or an under desk caddy in front of your legs. This will prevent you from unconsciously stretching out and crossing your legs over the course of the day. Leave the item in place until you have lost the habit).
If you follow these three simple guidelines, it should make a marked difference to your office health without any changes to your furniture. Just remember to get up, stretch, and walk around throughout your day.
