The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) “is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world. Using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology, we deliver extensive primary health care and 24-hour emergency service to those who live, work and travel throughout Australia.”
Relocating a 24/7 Aeromedical Emergency Response Team
We relocated a 24/7 emergency response team to a brand new purpose-built facility at Adelaide Airport from three locations including two at Mile end and one at another area of Adelaide Airport. The move included an aircraft hangar of aviation engineering and maintenance services, a medical response and treatment area, and approximately 60 administration staff.
Challenges – 0% Downtime – Life or Death
The relocation had to run like clock work! Running a 24/7 emergency response team, the RFDS had many time-critical components of the move. The timing of the move could literally be a life and death situation! The important work of the RFDS including expeditious transfer of patients from rural and remote locations to Adelaide metropolitan hospitals cannot stop for a relocation. Egans reliability to delivery within suitable timeframes was critical to the success of the move.
The RFDS team ran two bases concurrently until we completed the set up at the new base. The move included meticulous handling of expensive specialty equipment such as medical oxygen systems.
What the Royal Flying Doctor Service Said About the Move
John Lynch - Chief Executive Officer"I wanted to say a very big thank you to you and your entire team for the professional, courteous and efficient manner in which the move took place and continues at our request as we now decommission the 3 former sites.
From the time you personally briefed our Administration staff with the way we would pack our offices the whole journey has been a memorable one.
We all left Henley Beach road at 3pm on Friday 2nd September having packed our possessions and on Monday 5TH we walked into our new Base at Adelaide Airport and there were the boxes, stacked neatly at everyone’s workstation.
At all times we were in great hands and you should be proud that as we left on that Friday there were mixed emotions however they were quickly diluted by the efficiency of the move.
Your staff’s presence on the Monday satisfying yourselves and reassuring us that everything was ok was highly valued.
Congratulations to Egans as you made the move the success it was and we are pleased to provide this as advocacy and reference material."
