What would matter most to you if you were moving into a new office? Well it turns out, the answer is very different for different people. The Financial Review just posted an interesting article where they mention an employee that loves his office despite the roaming mice and dilapidated coffee stained carpet. What matters to him is the close location, friendly colleagues that he gets along with, having his own desk, and being greeted every time he walks in the door!
Liking your colleagues can be more important in deciding how healthy your workplace is, than any other factor. However, depending on who you are you might value sunlight, cleanliness, greenery, and space over friendly coworkers and a fantastic boss. It all depends on your personality. Some of us are more than happy to be cooped up in a stuffy cubicle or basement somewhere free of human contact as long as we get to do the work that we love.
Of course for most of us, having a good combination of healthy work factors are ideal. We want to socialise at work with like minded people, sit at comfortable workstation with plenty of space, be within waking or riding distance to our homes, have plenty of light and greenery in the office, and definitely no mice!
