The Australian Taxation Office and other public offices offer their employees an option to stand rather than sit at work. This is often done through sit-stand workstations that allow for various positions from fully sitting to fully standing. Private business needs to offer the same amenities to their staff. Sitting is definitely the new smoking with many illnesses now blamed on a lifetime of sitting in your office including bowel cancer and diabetes.
Research done by Monash University shows that if you have to sit, varying your posture throughout the day is the best way to avoid injury by keeping your back and neck in line. Contrary to popular belief, when it comes to sitting, there is really no right posture. The trick is not staying in one position for any length of time.
Ask your workplace about sit-stand workstations.
