    The University Archives

The Archives preserve the rich history of the University of Adelaide.

The University Archives collection “dates from the establishment of the University in 1874 and includes University Council and committee minutes, Elder Conservatorium records, early student and staff records, as well as a number of private donations that provide an insight into life at the University.”

“There are also records from student clubs and societies and related institutions including Roseworthy Agricultural College, Waite Agricultural Research Institute, Adelaide Teachers College and the South Australian College of Advanced Education.”

There are four main collections and each have their own unique numbering system.

    Moving 30,000 Archive Boxes

We systematically unpacked, moved, and repacked 30,000 archive boxes (approximately 5000 Lineal Meters) from  6 bay / 7 shelf (900mm shelves) compactus units over four stages. The move took place between Thebarton and Urrbrae, South Australia.

    Delicate Items

Some of the archives were old delicate items that required specialist packing and care.

    2,000 Archive Boxes Per Day

The timeline for the relocation was tight requiring us to move 2,000 archive boxes every day for a 15 day period.

    Site Under Construction

With the site still under construction we took care to work around other trades during the move.
