Joe Hockey spent two months in an office fit-out that cost taxpayers half a million dollars according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
The government spent 3 million dollars on office refurbishments and relocations for MPs last financial year. In addition to this Stephen Parry, Warren Entsch, and Mathew Canavan’s offices cost close to half a million dollars each.
These fit-outs were completed using 100% new office assets and materials. Nothing was reused and none of the waste left behind was recycled, wreaking havoc on not only the tax payers wallet but the environment as well.
You can see the most recent expenditures from all MPs across Australia on office facilities, relocations, and fit-outs in the Department of Finance’s Parliamentarians’ Expenditure on Entitlements Report.
The Shadow minster Mark Drefus received a lovely state of the art office refit for $165,980.72.
Egans can refit an entire office building, never mind one MPs office for a third of that price. And what’s more, we use quality Australian made re-purposed workstations and associated office furniture sourced through our ‘Wise Office Furniture Program’. The government can save so much of your money while reducing their carbon footprint at the same time.
So why is Finance so set on spending ridiculous amounts of tax payers money, when there are affordable sustainable options on the market?
Why did the Department of Finance spend $477,907.27 to move Joe Hockey 100 meters?
The Department of Finance 2015-2016 annual report for WA shows a significant number of upcoming government moves. 500 government workers are moving into new offices in Joondalup and the Department of Commerce is moving into existing tenancies in Cannington. What will be the environmental and financial cost of these moves considering the amounts previously spent on individual MPs alone?
